The Knights are finely carved and are of the Morphy style. The Bishops are very attractive and delicate with a wide miter and delicate top. The Knights are carved from boxwood and stained black. The black Knights are stained boxwood. All of the pieces still have their original green registration stickers. Some sets have a label shows the words “Second Quality”. The sets apparently establish that Jaques manufactured two qualities in their chess set line. The set is housed its original unlined cedar box with a green label showing: "THE STAUNTON CHESS-MEN.

The black Knights are ebony. The set is housed in its original carton pierre casket, lined in blue velvet, with the original yellow label showing: THE STAUNTON CHESS-MEN

Andersson Dropped-Jaw Style (circa 1855)

Andersson Style (pre 1862)

Jaques boxwood and ebony set, weighted and felted. The Knights are of the Anderssen style, and are very finely carved with a very bold and aggressive appearance. The Bishops have a bulbous headpiece with a medium-wide slit. These are some of the very few sets having the Anderssen Knight. The mahogany box is undivided and felt-lined.

Steinitz Style (circa 1867)
A boxwood and ebony set, heavily weighted and felted with "Jaques London" inscribed on the base of the White King.
