We offer several rare examples of circa 1800 to 1850 Calvert playing sets. Most of the sets are available in red-stained and natural ivory, with a few available in boxwood and rosewood. The Kings range fromm 3.25" to 4.4" tall (about the equivalent of a Staunton with its cross) with 1.4" to 1.6" diameter bases. All of the sets feature exquisitely carved Knights and full tower Rooks. Often the Kings and Queens have pedal and pistol tops. Frequently the White Rooks are marked with the Calvert mark. The most desirable sets are available in excellent condition in original boxes.
